About Black Onyx:
Black onyx is a variety of quartz called chalcedony, which comes from the ancient port ‘Calcedon’ or ‘Calchedon’ on the sea of Marmara. Ornamental materials were once mined in that area and it held a lot of mines which traded many stones. Onyx was used for everything from bases and handles for gold pieces, as well as for stone inlay work. Onyx is the Greek word for 'claw' or 'fingernail' and legends read that the origin of onyx comes from the goddess Venus resting on the banks of the Indus river. As she slept, Cupid used his enchanted arrows to give her a manicure. The shavings of her nails then fell into the sacred river, where they sank to the bottom and were metamorphosed into Onyx.
Onyx is said to transform negative energy and help preserve your personal energy, developing emotional and physical strength, especially during times of stress and grief. It is known to encourage happiness and self-discipline.
